Alpine Community Theater (ACT) and the Alpine Community Arts Council have teamed up with the Tony Award winning Utah Shakespearean Festival for a very special fund-raising Gala on March 26^th, 2010. Festival founder Fred Adams and Executive Director, Scott Phillips are excited to work with ACT and the Alpine Arts Council. “This is a win-win situation”, says Phillips. “We hope that we can help build some attention and interest to what all of you are trying to do in fundraising for your new theater in Alpine, and we want to make your Alpine, Highland, American Fork, and other northern Utah friends and patrons aware of the Utah Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City and what we have to offer.”

The Utah Shakespearean Festival Players will perform a fun, fast-paced Wild West adaptation of “The Taming of the Shrew”. This is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen it and is fun for the whole family. If you’ve always wanted to go to the Utah Shakespeare Festival but never had the opportunity, here’s your chance to see what you’ve been missing. The Lone Peak High School Shakespeare Team will also be on hand to present their award winning competition performances.

This event will be held at Timberline Middle School at 7:30pm. All proceeds will go to help fund ACT’s 2010 summer production of “The Wizard of Oz” which plays July 9^th-19^th. Auditions for “Oz” will be May 8^th at Timberline Middle School. Wizard of Oz- General Information

“The Wizard of Oz”

Show Dates– July 9^th- 19^th. There will be one Saturday matinee for a total of 8 shows. (July 9^th, 10^th, 12^th, 14^th, 16^th, 17^th- Matinee, 17^th-Eve, & 19^th.)

First Cast Meeting/Choral Rehearsal/Read Through – Saturday, May 15th from 9:00am – 11:00am, at Mountainville Academy.

PARENTS must attend. You will receive important information, scripts, rehearsal and work-day schedules, and costume information. Leads will need to stay for a full read through afterward, from 11:00am-1:00pm. Leads should also be prepared for a head shot photo. (Snacks will be provided for the read-through.)

Choral Rehearsals – Rehearsals will be held for the Entire Cast at Mountainville Academy on the following dates: Thursday May 20^th(6:45pm-9:00pm), Saturday May 22^nd(9:00am-12:00pm), Tuesday May 25^th (6:45pm-9:00pm) & Thursday May 27^th (6:45pm-9:00pm). Leads also need to attend rehearsals on Wednesday May 19^th & 26^th (6:45pm-9:00pm). These rehearsals are very important because you will be learning all the music for the show. Check the detailed rehearsal schedule for specific details on your role.

Rehearsals– Summer Rehearsals start Tuesday, June 1^st, from 5:45pm-10:00pm at Mountainville Academy. Rehearsals will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 5:45pm-10:00pm and Saturday mornings from 8:45am-12:00pm each week with July 4^th weekend off. Production Staff Meetings will be held following the Thursday rehearsals for a half hour. Workdays are scheduled Saturday June 5^th, June 12^th, and June 19^th. We will need help from all cast members and parents to help build and paint the set.

MANDATORY Rehearsal Dates – Evening of June 26^th& July 2^nd (For Leads only) and Tech and Dress rehearsals for the Entire Cast on July 6th – July 9^th. Scripts will need to be returned on or before July 2^nd, for full refund of deposit.

Rehearsal Attendance– You are expected to be at rehearsals ON TIME. You will be allowed to miss rehearsals 4 times throughout the summer, except during mandatory rehearsals and show dates. Please excuse your absence before you miss a rehearsal by contacting the Attendance Secretary.

Costumes– You or your parent will be responsible to see that costumes are ready on the costume deadline days, June 22^nd for the Main Cast and June 23^rd for Leads. There may be a reasonable cost associated with costumes depending on your role. Costume requirements will be provided by the costume director at the 1^st Cast Meeting.

Ice Cream Social– A ticket sales kick off will be the Ice Cream Social, co-sponsored by the Alpine Community Arts Council. This will be held June 19^th from 6-8pm at Legacy Park in Alpine. First choice of tickets will be available. There will be entertainment, all-you-can eat ice cream for a dollar and lots of fun. All cast members are asked to attend this fun event with their families and friends. Cast members will perform that evening.

Moving Day - June 26^th. We will be moving all our sets, props, costumes etc. to Timberline Middle School to prepare for our final Tech and Dress Rehearsals. We Need Everyone’s Help! Every cast member must have someone attend to help us with this. (Yourself, a parent, brother, uncle, etc.) We will rehearse from 8:45am- 12:00Noon at Mountainville Academy and then disassemble and move everything over to Timberline. Once there we will re-assemble & organize everything in preparation for Tech & Dress Rehearsals. Lighting and Sound Crews need to be there also to set up and run the evening rehearsal. Leads will rehearse that evening from 7:00-10:00pm.

Set Strike – July 19^th. We will strike the set on the 19^th after our last performance. Every cast member must have someone attend to help us with this. (Yourself, a parent, brother, uncle, etc.) We have to have the facility cleared out for final inspection. Everyone’s help is needed and appreciated!

Cast Party – This celebration will be held on July 22^nd for all cast and staff members to celebrate our great achievements. More info will come from the Cast Party Committee as the time nears.

Parade– All Wizard of Oz participants, both cast and crew, are invited to be part of our entry in the Alpine Days parade. Main leads will be required to attend. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Wizard of Oz t-shirt on the float.

In August 2007, Alpine Community Theater received a special recognition from Players Anonymous at www.playersanonymous.org

"Players Anonymous is giving special recognition for excellence in community musical theater this summer to Alpine community theater for a thrilling production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Sell-out audiences gave standing ovations for all eight performances. By double casting, Laura Snyder, the executive director, was able to include over two hundred performers… an amazing feat using families with young children as well as seasoned actors. The whole show revolved around the talents of Scott and Sue Carey who accompanied and directed a full orchestra of local talent. The play showcased award-winning actors such as Matt Dobson who played Gaston and a local 6′5" 275 lb Beast with a deep resonating voice, named Wendel Smith. Erica Glenn and Emilee Copier took turns as Belle and are as beautiful as they are talented singers and actresses. Every role was perfectly cast and the costumes were professionally presented by Kristen Arnold. The props and scenery were exquisite. This is an award-winning stage play and hold it up for all to see as an example of what a community working together can do."

"Annie Warbucks" was performed on August 1-8, 2005 at Timberline Middle School. It was directed by Laura Snyder and featured Paul Bingham as Oliver Warbucks, Taylor Valdez and Ariana Atwood as Annie and a cast of over a 130 other performers!
